Performing Search by PDF files

I think everybody understood what I'm going to describe in this article. Yes: this is proverbal "how to make PDF files searchable?". Why do I want to put this solution here? Because it is a one more efficient source that could help someone to fight against his / her problem.

First of all let me describe the environment I have been implementing this solution: WFE Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, x64-bit platform), SQL Server 2008, they are separated, WSS 3.0 + Search Server 2008 Express (SP1 and SP2 must be installed), Adobe Reader X (ver. 10.1.0).

STEPS to perform search by PDF files

1. Install Adobe PDF iFilter 9 platform (download from here).

WSS 3.0 Search Engine Architecture

Recently, my company's got the task to help the client to resolve some if its issues with Search in their environment. So, my aim here is to describe that problems and propose solutions I applied. In the some next articles I will descibe how to:

• search content in any Web Application being in one site collection;

Introduction

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Constantine. I'm a Russian speaker, but want to write my blog in English.

First, I want to tell you is that I work with Sharepoint not so much time (1 year of officially gained experince and 1 year, before it, of personal sympathy to MS Sharepoint products). I'm involved now as a Sharepoint administrator; I've successfully passed my exam 70-667, TS: Microsoft Sharepoint 2010, Configuring on April, 2011.

The second thing I want to share with you is that any article in the blog doesn't pretend on absolute truth, instead they reflect my own experience I want to share with you.
